Yarn Expo 2025 Opens in Surat, Showcasing Global Innovations in the Yarn Industry

Surat, August 1: The much-anticipated 'Yarn Expo 2025', organized by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) along with the Chamber’s Business and Industrial Development Center, was inaugurated on Friday at the Surat International Exhibition and Convention Centre (SIECC), Sarsana. The event marks a significant step towards integrating Surat’s textile industry with cutting-edge innovation and global trends.

In his welcome address, SGCCI President Nikhil Madrasi emphasized that the expo is aimed at connecting Surat’s textile industry with technological advancement. The three-day exhibition provides a global platform for the yarn sector and features participation from more than 85 yarn manufacturers and exhibitors from India and abroad.

The opening day witnessed the arrival of international buyers from countries like Switzerland, the Czech Republic, and Bangladesh, signaling Surat’s emergence not just as a domestic hub but also as a key player in the global yarn market.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by prominent industry leaders including J. Raghunath, Senior Vice President at Reliance Industries Limited; Satyaki Ghosh, CEO of Fashion Yarn Business at Grasim Industries; S.N. Modani, Vice President at Sangam India Limited; and Durai Palanisamy, Executive Director at Pallava Group.

The expo features an extensive showcase of innovative yarn types such as silver and gold zari, tencel yarn, cotton, n-silk, lyocell, hemp yarn, anti-microbial yarn, and biodegradable yarns. These materials are no longer limited to traditional textiles but are increasingly used in technical, medical, and sports fabrics.

J. Raghunath highlighted the exponential growth of polyester yarn consumption in India, which has surged from 150 tonnes per month in 1981 to over 1.5 lakh tonnes today. He described this as a revolution in the yarn industry and underlined the importance of smart manufacturing, AI-based quality control, digital marketing, and textile innovation.

Satyaki Ghosh of Grasim Industries discussed the growing potential of viscose filament yarn, while Dr. Modani of Sangam India shed light on the rising need for and prospects of technical textiles.

Adding glamour to the expo, a fashion show organized by Surat’s renowned brand Righan Fashions (Liberty) captivated the audience. Models and fashion students showcased stunning yarn-based outfits under the guidance of Dinesh and Karishma Dhankani, leaving spectators spellbound.

The event also featured a vote of thanks by SGCCI Vice President Ashok Jirawala and was anchored by Honorary Secretary Bhavesh Tailor. Girdhar Gopal Mundra, Chairman of Yarn Expo, spoke about the vision behind the exhibition.

Yarn Expo 2025 is not just a trade event but a milestone in establishing Surat as a hub for textile innovation and global competitiveness. It has emerged as a source of inspiration for industrialists, budding entrepreneurs, and foreign investors alike.
