Gujarat's Table Tennis Players to Represent India at FISU World University Games in Germany
Surat, July 17 — Gujarat’s table tennis talent is set to shine on the international stage, as two of its promising players have been selected to represent India at the prestigious FISU World University Games, scheduled to be held in Ruhr, Germany from July 16 to 27. The Indian team will be led by 23-year-old Ayaz Murad from Gujarat, with fellow Surat-based player 20-year-old Devarsh Vaghela also making it to the squad.
Both Ayaz and Devarsh have honed their skills over the past two years at the SAG-Tapti Valley High Performance Table Tennis Centre in Surat. Their selection reflects the growing prominence of Gujarat as a hub for table tennis training and development.
The Indian team will compete in multiple events, including team matches, singles, men's doubles, and mixed doubles. As per agency report, Gujarat State Table Tennis Association President Pramod Chaudhary expressed pride over the selection, stating that the performance of these young athletes is a matter of great honour for the state. He further noted that their training at the high-performance academy has been exceptional, and the state is hopeful for an outstanding performance by the Indian team.
Alongside Ayaz and Devarsh, the Indian men's team includes Harkuwar Singh and Chitwan Wadhwa, while the women's team comprises Tanisha Kotecha, Preetha Varthikar, Suhana Saini, and Sayali Vani.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for Gujarat’s sporting community, signaling a new chapter of success in the state's journey in competitive table tennis.
