Surat Declared Cleanest City in India in Swachh Survekshan 2024, Tops the 'Super Swachh League'
Surat has once again reaffirmed its reputation as India’s cleanest city by securing the top position in the Swachh Survekshan 2024 rankings. The city earned this distinction in the newly introduced "Super Swachh League," launched by the Government of India to recognize consistently top-performing cities in cleanliness.
As per report, Surat achieved the highest rank in the category of cities with a population of over ten lakh. In recognition of this exceptional achievement, the Surat Municipal Corporation was honored by the President of India during a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The award was received on behalf of Gujarat by State Health Minister Rushikesh Patel, Surat Municipal Commissioner Shalini Agarwal, Mayor Dakshesh Mavani, and Standing Committee Chairman Rajan Patel.
The event was broadcast live at Surat's Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), where sanitation workers joined municipal officials to witness the celebration. Following the announcement, city councillor and BJP city president Paresh Patel distributed sweets to the sanitation staff, acknowledging their pivotal role in this success.
It is noteworthy that Surat was also crowned the cleanest city in India in 2023. The city’s consistent top performance earned it a spot in the inaugural "Super Swachh League," an initiative designed to encourage cities that have featured in the top three rankings at least twice in the past three years.
A total of 12 cities across the country were selected for the league and categorized into five groups based on population. Surat emerged as the leader in its category, outshining all other contenders.
To mark this milestone, a grand welcome celebration and public event have been planned for this evening at the Y-Junction on Dumas Road in Surat, where the returning municipal team will be felicitated.
This recognition once again establishes Surat at the forefront of urban cleanliness and civic responsibility in India.
