Surat Tragedy: Three Elderly Family Members Die of Suspected Suffocation from Generator Fumes in Bhatha Village
Surat, July 11 – A tragic incident in Bhatha village has left the city in shock, as three elderly members of the same family were found dead in what appears to be a case of suffocation caused by generator fumes. The deceased have been identified as Balu Bhai Patel (77), Sitaben Patel (66), and Vedaben Patel (60), all of whom were sleeping in the same room when the suspected incident occurred.
According to initial reports, the tragedy is believed to have resulted from the smoke emitted by a generator that was running overnight. The enclosed space reportedly filled with toxic fumes, leading to the deaths. Local residents discovered the lifeless bodies the following morning and immediately alerted the police and fire department.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene, switched off the generator, and assisted in removing the bodies from the room. The deceased were sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. As per agency report, forensic experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have also been called in to assist with the investigation.
Police have initiated a thorough probe and are recording statements from family members and neighbors. While early indications suggest asphyxiation due to generator smoke, authorities are awaiting the post-mortem and forensic reports to confirm the cause.
The incident has raised serious concerns over safety practices regarding the use of generators, particularly in poorly ventilated spaces. It serves as a somber reminder of the importance of following strict safety guidelines to prevent such fatal accidents in residential areas.
