Surat Gears Up for Grand International Yoga Day Celebration on June 21
Surat is preparing to celebrate the 11th International Yoga Day on June 21 with great enthusiasm under the theme "Healthy Gujarat, Obesity-Free Gujarat". A district-level review meeting was recently held under the chairmanship of District Collector Dr. Saurabh Pardhi to ensure smooth execution of the upcoming event.
The meeting, conducted at the Collector's Office Conference Hall, focused on planning the main district-level event, which will be held from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. at the Sarsana Convention Centre. The programme is expected to witness the participation of ministers, the mayor, local legislators, and senior government officials.
As per agency report, the yoga day celebration will not be limited to the district headquarters. Extensive yoga practice sessions will be organized across talukas, municipalities, village panchayats, schools, police stations, health centers, prisons, and community parks at the ward level. The collector emphasized the need for all concerned departments to make thorough preparations and to ensure maximum public participation.
Special attention has been directed towards organizing yoga sessions at prominent public places at the taluka level to make the event more inclusive. These sessions will follow the standard yoga protocol laid down for the occasion.
The meeting was attended by Resident Additional Collector Vijay Rabari, District Youth Development Officer Radhikaben Lathia, provincial officers, Mamlatdars, and several other senior officials. All present pledged their commitment to contribute actively towards the success of the event.
The Surat district administration aims to transform International Yoga Day from a one-day celebration into a sustained public movement to promote the practice of yoga as part of daily life.
