Gujarat’s ‘Namo Lakshmi Yojana’ Empowers Over 55,000 Girl Students in Rajkot
In a determined effort to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047, the Gujarat government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has launched several innovative initiatives in the field of education. One such impactful scheme is the 'Namo Lakshmi Yojana,' introduced in 2024, aimed at encouraging quality education for girls from economically weaker and middle-class families.
Under the guidance of Rajkot District Education Officer Dikshitbhai Patel, the implementation of the scheme has been progressing successfully across both urban and rural areas of the district. According to school advisor Bhavanaben Bhojani, more than 55,300 girl students in Rajkot district are currently benefiting from the scheme.
The financial structure of the scheme is designed to support students throughout their secondary and higher secondary education. Girls studying in classes 9 and 10 receive Rs. 500 per month for ten months, amounting to Rs. 5,000 per year. An additional Rs. 10,000 is provided upon passing class 10. Similarly, girls in classes 11 and 12 are granted Rs. 750 per month, totaling Rs. 15,000 over two years, with another Rs. 15,000 awarded upon successfully completing class 12. In total, a student can receive up to Rs. 50,000 through this scheme.
To be eligible, students must maintain a minimum attendance of 80 percent. The application process is conducted online by the school, and the funds are transferred directly to the bank account of the student’s mother via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
The impact of the scheme in Rajkot is already visible, with a notable rise in both the interest of girls in education and their confidence levels. As per agency report, the 'Namo Lakshmi Yojana' stands out as a transformative initiative, playing a crucial role in strengthening girls’ education and paving the way for a brighter future for daughters across the state.
