PM Modi to Virtually Inaugurate Projects Worth ₹232 Crore in Surat, Including Asia’s Largest Biodiversity Park
Surat, May 27 – In a significant development for Surat residents, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to virtually inaugurate a series of civic projects worth ₹232 crore on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from Gandhinagar. The initiatives span key sectors including environment, healthcare, education, and infrastructure, marking a major leap forward in the city’s urban transformation.
As per agency report, the most notable among these projects is the long-awaited Wild Valley Biodiversity Park, developed along both banks of the Kankara Creek at a cost of ₹145 crore. Touted as Asia’s largest biodiversity park, the 60-hectare green zone features over five lakh trees planted across six hectares. Beyond increasing green cover, the park is expected to significantly aid in controlling water pollution, boosting groundwater levels, and improving air quality.
The park includes a 13-kilometer walking path and an 11-kilometer cycling track, offering a healthy, eco-friendly space for nature enthusiasts. Officials believe the park will not only redefine Surat as a model for environmental planning but also inspire a healthier urban lifestyle.
Other major projects being inaugurated include:
A ₹24 crore sewage treatment pipeline in the Gavier area, which will install a 1,100 mm diameter MS rising main pipeline to serve approximately 60,000 citizens. The treated water from the system will also support industrial reuse, generating additional revenue for the municipal corporation.
A ₹25 crore educational complex in Limbayat, comprising a new primary school and the Suman High School, will be constructed in TP-7 (Anjana), FP-133. The schools will provide quality, free education to around 3,000 students.
An ₹38 crore Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) will digitize healthcare operations across SMIMER Hospital, Maskati Hospital, and all urban health centers managed by the Surat Municipal Corporation. The initiative is expected to enhance transparency, improve service delivery, and support data-driven planning for future healthcare needs.
These projects collectively aim to elevate Surat’s standing not just in infrastructure but also in environmental sustainability and digital health innovation. The virtual inauguration by Prime Minister Modi is anticipated to provide fresh momentum and national recognition to the city’s forward-looking initiatives.
