Gujarat CM Praises Para Swimmer Garima Vyas for Winning Two Golds at Special Khel Mahakumbh

Vadodara’s para swimmer Garima Vyas has earned high praise from Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel after winning two gold medals in the third edition of the Special Khel Mahakumbh’s swimming competition. In a congratulatory message, the Chief Minister lauded Garima’s unwavering determination and celebrated her victory as a testament to the spirit behind the term “Divyang,” popularized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In his message, Chief Minister Patel wrote that Garima’s achievements not only exemplify the true essence of being “Divyang,” or differently-abled, but also serve as a powerful source of inspiration for both disabled and able-bodied individuals alike.

Garima Vyas’s journey is a compelling narrative of resilience and courage. She suffered a life-altering accident during a trekking expedition in the Pavagadh hills, which resulted in paralysis of the lower part of her body. However, she refused to give in to despair and chose to embrace the challenging sport of swimming, eventually carving out a place for herself in competitive sports.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Garima’s courage and dedication offer a beacon of hope for all, especially for those who struggle to persevere in the face of adversity. “Your life is a role model for those who lose hope when faced with difficulties. You have shown that with strong willpower, no obstacle is insurmountable,” he added.

He also highlighted the role of the Khel Mahakumbh initiative, launched in 2010 by then Chief Minister Narendra Modi, which has since encouraged youth participation in sports across Gujarat. Garima’s success, he noted, is a shining example of the talent such initiatives can help bring to light.

Garima Vyas’s triumph is not just a moment of pride for Gujarat but for the entire nation. Her achievement reinforces the idea that true victory is not determined by physical ability, but by the strength of the mind.
