Surat’s Kohinoor Textile Market Remains a Key Hub for Saree Wholesale Trade

Surat, May 17 – Located in the bustling Salabatpura area of Surat, Kohinoor Textile Market has established itself as a prominent center for the wholesale trade of sarees, lehengas, printed textiles, and designer work sarees. Established in 2001, the sprawling market houses a total of 2,426 shops and operates under the supervision of an 11-member committee. Currently, Satish Gauri Shankar Thakur serves as both president and secretary of the committee.

As per agency report, the market is known for its extensive range of textile offerings and remains one of the most visited wholesale destinations for traditional Indian garments. Speaking to Loktej, Dhruvit Gedhvariya, proprietor of Oscar Creation, explained that his primary business involves manufacturing sarees using plain fabric, fancy materials, NC Moss, Almonds digital prints, and various work sarees. While his operations are mainly offline and concentrated within Surat, he also caters to clients through online malls and resellers.

His business partner, Sharad Gopani, shared that their shop offers sarees priced between ₹400 and ₹500 in the wholesale segment. He noted that July, August, and September are the busiest months for trade, with supplies also being dispatched through agents during this peak season.

Pankaj Jain, the director of Bahubali Prints Private Limited, recalled beginning his business journey in 1994 at Ashoka Tower and shifting to Kohinoor Textile Market in 2001. His enterprise specializes in manufacturing, trading, and selling fancy work sarees. With clients spread across various Indian states, his shop offers sarees ranging from ₹300 to ₹2,000 in the wholesale market. Jain emphasized that his business also prioritizes offline trading and sees significant spikes during festive seasons like Raksha Bandhan and Diwali. Most transactions are conducted via cheque. However, he pointed out that GST regulations have introduced certain challenges for retail buyers. Delivering a cultural message, he urged citizens to preserve India’s heritage by continuing to embrace sarees, describing them as a symbol of Indian identity.
