CBSE Class 12 Results Declared: Girls Outperform Boys; Slight Drop in 90%+ Scorers
New Delhi, May 13 — The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced the results of the Class 12 board examinations on Tuesday, revealing a strong overall performance with girls once again outperforming boys. As per agency report, there has been a slight decline in the number of students scoring above 90 percent compared to last year.
This year, 88.39 percent of students passed the Class 12 examination, marking a marginal improvement over last year’s 87.98 percent pass rate. Girls achieved a pass percentage of 91.64, significantly higher than the 85.70 percent recorded for boys. Among transgender candidates, the pass percentage saw a remarkable improvement, doubling from last year’s 50 percent.
A total of 1,11,544 students scored more than 90 percent, while 24,867 students achieved scores above 95 percent. In comparison, last year saw 1.16 lakh students score above 90 percent, with 24,068 students surpassing the 95 percent mark.
Among the high achievers were 290 candidates from the Children with Special Needs (CSWN) category who scored above 90 percent, and 55 of them scored more than 95 percent. The CSWN category includes students who require additional academic support due to physical, mental, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
This year, a total of 16,92,794 students appeared for the Class 12 board examinations. Of these, over 1.29 lakh candidates will need to take supplementary exams to qualify.
Region-wise, Vijayawada recorded the highest pass percentage at 99.60, followed closely by Thiruvananthapuram at 99.32 percent. Prayagraj region reported the lowest pass percentage at 79.53.
Among school categories, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas posted the highest pass rate at 99.9 percent, while private or independent schools recorded the lowest at 87.94 percent. Indian schools abroad also witnessed a minor dip in performance, with the pass rate falling from 95.84 percent last year to 95.01 percent this year.
