Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi's 'Bhool Chook Maaf' to Skip Theatrical Release, Premieres on Prime Video on May 16
New Delhi, May 8 – In light of recent national developments and heightened security concerns, Maddock Films announced on Thursday that its upcoming family entertainer Bhool Chook Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, will not be released in theatres as originally planned. Instead, the film will premiere directly on Prime Video on May 16.
As per agency report, the decision follows intensified nationwide security protocols in the aftermath of India’s missile strikes on terror bases in Pakistan under ‘Operation Sindoor’. The strikes came in response to the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed 26 lives.
In an official statement, Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios cited the current security environment as the reason for opting for a digital release. The statement expressed the production team's enthusiasm to share the film with audiences in theatres but emphasized that national interest takes precedence.
The filmmakers added that while they were eager to experience the film alongside audiences on the big screen, the safety and sentiment of the nation remain paramount. The message concluded with a patriotic note, stating, “Jai Hind!”
Bhool Chook Maaf is directed and written by Karan Sharma and is positioned as a wholesome family entertainer. The shift to a direct-to-digital release ensures the film reaches audiences safely during a sensitive time in the country.
