Sumul Dairy’s Chalthan THR Plant Wins SGCCI’s Golden Jubilee Award for Excellence in Energy Conservation
Surat, April 11, 2025 – Sumul Dairy’s Take Home Ration (THR) plant in Chalthan has been honored with the first prize in the Energy Conservation category at the Golden Jubilee Awards 2023-24, organized by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI). The recognition celebrates outstanding performance in energy efficiency, technological innovation, and sustainable production practices.
Sumul Dairy’s application for the award faced stiff competition from several prominent industries across Gujarat. However, the Chalthan THR plant emerged as a frontrunner by excelling in all evaluation parameters. The award will be officially presented on April 16, 2025, during a ceremony at the SGCCI Platinum Hall in Sarsana, where Sumul Dairy’s chairman, vice-chairman, board directors, and unit heads will be in attendance to receive the honor.
The criteria for the Energy Conservation category included savings in electrical and thermal energy, reduction in specific energy consumption, energy audits, capacity utilization, food processing innovations, scientific advancements, safety control mechanisms, and implementation of state-of-the-art technologies.
The Chalthan THR plant is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) initiative and provides ready-to-cook nutrition products to young children, adolescents, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. Among the three high-tech ICDS plants operating in Gujarat—in Kheda, Banaskantha, and Surat districts—Chalthan has been acknowledged as the most advanced and efficient.
This achievement adds to Sumul Dairy’s impressive record. In the past five years alone, the organization has earned 13 awards at both national and state levels. These include the 2024 National Energy Conservation Award (First Place for Chalthan THR Plant), the 2023 IDA Best Dairy Plant Award (First Place for Navi Pardi), and multiple accolades for environmental protection, technological excellence, and plantation drives, including recognition for planting over 4 million trees in four years.
Sumul Dairy has dedicated this latest honor to the hardworking milk producers of Surat and Tapi districts, whose commitment to quality and innovation has helped the institution reach new milestones in the dairy and nutrition sectors.
