Number of Most Affected Naxal Districts Reduced from 12 to 6: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Tuesday that the number of districts most affected by Naxalism has declined from 12 to just six. He credited this reduction to the government's tough stance against left-wing extremism and its consistent efforts toward holistic development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As per agency report, Shah emphasized that the government remains firmly committed to eliminating Naxalism entirely by March 31, 2026, as part of its vision of building a strong, secure, and prosperous India. Taking to social media platform X, he stated that reducing the number of severely affected districts marks a significant step toward a Naxal-free India.

According to data from the Ministry of Home Affairs, districts classified as left-wing extremism (LWE) affected are those where Naxal-related violence and activities are still reported. These districts are further categorized into "most affected" and "districts of concern." The term "most affected districts" has been used since 2015, while the sub-category of "districts of concern" was introduced in 2021.

Official records show a consistent decline in the number of most affected districts over the years, with 35 such districts reported in 2015, 30 in 2018, and 25 in 2021. The latest update brings this number down to just six, highlighting the progress made in curbing left-wing extremism in India.
