12,000 Women Set Guinness World Record with Ghoomar Dance in Surat on Rajasthan Foundation Day
Surat, March 30 – In a spectacular celebration of Rajasthan Foundation Day, the Rajput community in Surat achieved a Guinness World Record with 12,000 women and girls performing the traditional Ghoomar dance simultaneously. The event was held at Marudhar Ground in Godadara, with Gujarat Minister of State for Home, Harsh Sanghavi, in attendance.
As per agency report, this record-breaking feat surpassed the previous record set in Jaipur, where 6,000 women had participated in a similar performance. The Guinness World Records team was present at the venue to officially witness and validate the event.
The celebration showcased the rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan, with famed Kalbeliya dance artist Asa Sapera conducting a training session for the participants. Accompanied by Bollywood folk singers, Sapera helped the women perfect the intricate steps of the Ghoomar dance, adding a vibrant spirit to the proceedings. The event also symbolized the cultural harmony between Gujarat and Rajasthan.
Adding to the significance of the day, the women collectively performed Ganga Aarti on the first day of Chaitra Navratri. This spiritual ritual, involving 12,000 participants, also marked a new record. Eleven priests were specially invited from Varanasi to lead the Aarti ceremony.
In another highlight, approximately 200,000 people took a pledge to conserve water, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide water conservation campaign.
This grand celebration not only honored Rajasthan’s cultural traditions but also reflected the unity and community strength of the Rajasthani diaspora in Surat.
