Surat Traffic Police Intensifies Night Patrols to Enforce Helmet Rules
In an effort to enhance road safety, the Surat Traffic Police has launched a special night-time drive to strictly enforce helmet regulations. While compliance with helmet rules has improved during the day since stricter enforcement began on February 15, authorities observed a sharp rise in violations at night. To address this, police have ramped up action even during late hours.
As per agency report, more than 25,000 motorists were fined over the past four nights for riding without helmets. The traffic police emphasized that wearing a helmet is mandatory at all times, both day and night, as road accidents can occur unpredictably.
The department clarified that the objective is not merely to collect fines but to protect lives and reduce the number of traffic accidents. With that in mind, motorists are being strongly urged to wear helmets even during night-time travel. Officials believe that raising awareness about the risks of riding without helmets is as important as enforcement.
The traffic police reiterated that helmets should not be viewed only as a means to avoid penalties but as essential protection for riders. In the event of an accident, wearing a helmet significantly reduces the risk of serious injury.
Authorities have appealed to all two-wheeler riders to adhere to helmet rules consistently, both during the day and at night, to ensure their own safety and help lower the number of road-related fatalities and injuries across the city.
