SGCCI Organizes Awareness Program on Quality Control for Aluminium, Copper, and Electrical Equipment
Surat, February 15 – The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SGCCI) hosted an industrial awareness program focusing on the Quality Control Order (QCO) for Aluminium and Copper Products, Electrical Equipment, and Machinery Safety. Senior officials from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Surat, including Senior Director S.K. Singh, Joint Director Kunjan Kumar Anand, and Deputy Director Dhanraj Karad, provided entrepreneurs and traders in Surat with detailed insights into quality control regulations, standards, and certification processes.
SGCCI President Vijay Mevawala emphasized the critical role of quality control in maintaining high standards and ensuring product safety. He highlighted that strict quality regulations not only improve product reliability but also contribute to consumer safety and environmental protection.
Senior Director S.K. Singh informed attendees that BIS actively educates manufacturers about QCO regulations through the government’s "Standards Conclave" initiative. He recommended purchasing copper, aluminium, stainless steel, and PVC pipe products only from BIS-certified manufacturers to avoid potential compliance issues.
Joint Director Kunjan Kumar Anand explained the Product Certification Scheme and QCO regulations, stating that over 720 products require mandatory certification, while 1,335 products fall under ISI certification. Deputy Director Dhanraj Karad provided insights into QCO for machinery and electrical equipment, which is set to take effect on August 28, 2025.
The event saw participation from SGCCI Vice President Nikhil Madrasi, Honorary Treasurer Mrinal Shukla, Group Chairman Dr. Anil Sarawgi, along with prominent industrialists and business professionals. The session was conducted by SGCCI’s Bullion Committee Chairman Nainesh Pachchigar, and experts addressed queries from attendees before concluding the program.
