Strict Helmet Rule Enforcement Begins in Gujarat, Fines Imposed on SMC Employees
Surat, February 11 – The Gujarat government has officially implemented mandatory helmet laws across the state, aiming to reduce fatalities and severe injuries caused by road accidents. As part of this initiative, enforcement has begun from today, ensuring that all government officers and employees comply with helmet regulations while commuting on two-wheelers.
On the first day of enforcement, Surat Traffic Police took strict action by fining Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) employees arriving at work without helmets. In a bid to ensure compliance, traffic police personnel were deployed near entry gates of government offices across the state, including the Surat Municipal Corporation headquarters.
Early in the morning, traffic police officers stationed at the SMC headquarters in Muglisara began imposing fines on employees who failed to wear helmets. Security guards at the main entrance prevented non-compliant employees from entering until they paid the fine. The sudden enforcement caused a stir among many employees, who were caught off guard by the strict execution of the rule.
Despite prior circulars and warnings from the police department, several employees ignored the directive and arrived at work without helmets. However, seeing the police presence and fines being issued at the municipal office gate, employees quickly rushed to comply with the regulation.
The Gujarat government’s firm stance on helmet compliance is part of a broader initiative to enhance road safety and prevent avoidable accidents. Authorities have warned that further violations will lead to heavier fines and stricter penalties in the coming weeks.
