Toddler Suffers Severe Burns After Falling into Hot Sugar Syrup in Surat

Surat, India - A two-year-old boy in Hansot, Ankleshwar, suffered severe burns after accidentally falling into a pot of hot sugar syrup while playing. The child has been referred to Surat Civil Hospital for treatment, where doctors report his condition is critical. The family, originally from Rajasthan, is devastated by the incident.

The family, who recently moved to Hansot 15 to 20 days ago, had started an ice ball business to earn their living. On April 25, while the child's father was making syrup to color the snowballs, the boy fell into the hot pan. The pot of sugar syrup had been left open while the family sat down to eat.

The young child playfully reached for the pan of sugar syrup and suddenly fell into it, causing severe burns to his back. The family only realized the accident when the child started crying. They immediately rushed him to the hospital.

The toddler received first aid at Hansot Government Hospital for two days, but his condition did not improve. He was then transferred to Surat Civil Hospital, where he was admitted to the surgery ward after receiving treatment at the trauma center. The child is currently on a ventilator, with more than 30% of his body burned and his breathing process unstable.

Om Prakash, a relative of the child, explained that the hot syrup was being made for the ice balls, and the child was playing nearby while his parents were eating. The pan was accidentally left uncovered, leading to the unfortunate incident. Doctors at Surat Civil Hospital are doing everything possible to improve the child's health.
