The victim, a resident of Uttar Pradesh who has been living in Surat for four years, works alongside her husband, a security guard. The couple has two daughters, and they live in a rented house. On the night of the incident, the woman was sleeping on the terrace with her daughters and a young relative when the neighbor approached with malicious intent. He molested her by touching her waist, causing her to cry out in distress. The young man fled the scene but returned in the morning to threaten the victim, prompting her to seek help from the Abhayam helpline.
After the helpline staff demanded police action, the neighbor admitted his mistake and apologized, promising not to commit such acts again. The victim, who did not wish to pursue further action, agreed to give the young man an opportunity to amend his behavior. The helpline obtained a written guarantee from the assailant, ensuring the matter was resolved between both parties.
