Vijay Mewawala Declared Unopposed Vice President of SGCCI

Surat: The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has announced that Vijay Mewawala has been declared the unopposed winner for the Vice President post for the 2023-24 term. The Chamber's election, initially scheduled for next Sunday, has been postponed following the withdrawal of the only rival candidate, Dr. Vandana Bhattacharya.

Initially, 13 candidates were nominated for the vice-presidential position in SGCCI. However, through persuasion by former prominent union leaders, efforts were made to stop the election process. Consequently, CA Mitish Modi and Bhadresh Shah withdrew their candidature in favor of Vijay Mewawala. Although Manish Kapadia and Dr. Vandana Bhattacharya initially expressed determination to contest against Mewawala, they too eventually withdrew their candidacy.

On Friday, Dr. Vandana Bhattacharya announced her withdrawal and extended her support to Vijay Mewawala. This led to the election being postponed and Mewawala being declared the unopposed winner for the Vice President post. Former president Dinesh Navadiya and other dignitaries felicitated Mewawala at the Chamber of Commerce Sarsana.

In the coming year, Ramesh Vaghasia will serve as Chamber President, while Vijay Mewawala assumes the role of Vice President, both working towards the development of industries in South Gujarat, including Surat.
