Prime Minister Modi Celebrates 10 Years of One Rank One Pension Scheme for Ex-Servicemen
Modi Calls OROP a Symbol of Nation's Gratitude Towards Its Heroes
New Delhi, November 7 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 10th anniversary of the implementation of the ‘One Rank One Pension’ (OROP) scheme, calling it a significant step towards honoring the country’s heroes. Modi highlighted that the OROP scheme reflects his government’s commitment to the welfare of the armed forces.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had pledged to implement the OROP scheme during the 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign. After assuming office, Prime Minister Modi prioritized this initiative. In a message on his official X handle, he wrote, “On this day, the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme was implemented. It was a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of our brave soldiers and ex-servicemen who dedicated their lives to defending our nation. Fulfilling the longstanding demand for OROP was a vital step in confirming the nation’s gratitude towards its heroes.”
The OROP scheme ensures that ex-servicemen receive pensions based on their rank and length of service, regardless of the year they retired. The policy underscores India’s commitment to the well-being of its veterans, recognizing their invaluable contributions and the sacrifices made for national security.
