Surat: SMC Upgrades 100 City Buses with New BS-6 Engines for a Greener and More Reliable Transit System

Surat – In a continuous effort to improve the city's public transportation system, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is upgrading 100 city buses with the latest BS-6 engines. On Friday, Transport Committee Chairman Somnath Marathe visited the Kosad bus depot to review the ongoing upgrade process.

Chairman Marathe explained that the old BS-4 engines in these 100 buses are being replaced with the more eco-friendly BS-6 engines. This upgrade aims to reduce pollution and resolve the frequent breakdown issues faced by the buses. The upgrade will be completed in three phases, with 50 buses being updated in each phase.

According to Marathe, the work on the first batch of 50 buses is almost complete, with 5 buses already ready for formalities at the RTO. These upgraded buses will soon be deployed on various routes, providing a smoother and more reliable travel experience for passengers.

During his visit, the chairman emphasized the importance of seamless execution of the project while interacting with Citylink depot managers and maintenance staff. He added that the upgrade will make Surat's city bus service more reliable and environmentally friendly.
