South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce Forms Textile Task Force for Industry Growth

Surat: In a major move aimed at boosting the textile industry, the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has established a Textile Task Force. This initiative brings together entrepreneurs, traders, and experts from across the entire textile value chain.

Vijay Mevawala, President of the Chamber of Commerce, stated that the primary goal of this task force is to address the challenges faced by the textile industry and develop strategies to take the industry to new heights. "The textile sector is the backbone of Surat's economy. Through this task force, we aim to strengthen the industry and make it more competitive globally," he said.

The key responsibilities of the task force include fostering coordination among industry leaders across different sectors, collaborating with the government to implement necessary policy changes for the industry, promoting skill development, encouraging research and development for new products and technologies, and marketing Surat's textiles in both domestic and international markets.

According to the NITI Aayog’s plan, Surat’s economy is projected to reach $1.5 trillion by 2047. The textile industry will play a crucial role in achieving this target, and the Textile Task Force aims to contribute towards making Surat the world's largest textile hub.

The Chamber of Commerce has appointed S.P. Verma, former Additional Textile Commissioner of India, as an advisor to the task force. Additionally, Ashish Gujarati, former Chamber President, will serve as the chairman of the task force.

The task force will hold monthly meetings and organize a 'Textile Conclave' twice a year. A survey will also be conducted to collect data on the textile industry in Surat to better understand and address the sector's needs.
