Surat: Police Vehicle Transporting Prisoner Crashes, One Officer Dead, Four Injured

Surat, 26 September: A tragic road accident occurred near the village of Borasara in Mangrol Tehsil, Surat district, on Thursday morning. A police vehicle transporting a prisoner was hit from behind by a goods vehicle, leading to a fatal crash. One police officer was killed, while the prisoner and three other officers sustained injuries. All the injured were taken to Jayaba Hospital in Ankleshwar, Bharuch district, for treatment.

The accident occurred on the National Highway near Nana Borasara village, falling under the Kosamba Police Station's jurisdiction. The police vehicle, while transporting the prisoner, lost control after being hit by a following goods vehicle. The vehicle then collided with a truck in front, crashing into the rear of the truck due to the impact. The force of the collision caused severe damage to the police vehicle.

Head Constable Digvijaysinh Rathod of the Local Crime Branch, who was critically injured, tragically succumbed to his injuries. The prisoner, Vijay alias Wajo Parmar, along with police officers Ghanshyamsinh Jadeja, Divyesh Suva, and Arvindsinh Jadeja, were injured in the crash.

The police stated that the Rajkot LCB team was transporting the prisoner, who had jumped parole, from Hazira, Surat, to Rajkot when the accident occurred near Nana Borasara village. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
