Surat’s Sarvoday Textile Market: A Hub for Affordable Shirting-Suiting Fabrics

Surat – The textile markets along Surat's Ring Road are renowned for their distinct management systems and diverse product offerings. While New Textile Market, Radhakrishna Textile Market, and Begumwadi are popular for ladies' suits and dress materials, others like Surat Textile Market, JJ, Millennium, Abhishek, Silk City, and Raghukul are famous for their saree trade. In this line-up, Sarvoday Textile Market stands out as the go-to destination for shirting-suiting fabrics and kurta-pyjama materials.

With 115 shops, Sarvoday Textile Market offers a wide range of fabrics for wholesale, semi-wholesale, and retail buyers. One of its distinguishing features is that only 8-10 shops are rented, while the rest are owned by the traders themselves. Additionally, the market boasts free parking and maintains an excellent standard of cleanliness under the leadership of its new office bearers, including Sajjan Agarwal (President), Arvind Gadia (Vice President), Manoj Jain (Secretary), and Suraj Soni (Treasurer).

Affordable Branded and Non-Branded Fabrics

Sajjan Agarwal, also known as Dabbu Bhai, who runs Shakambhari Synthetics, a shirting-suiting business in Sarvoday Textile Market, shared that the market offers all types of fabrics at affordable prices. "We source branded fabrics directly from companies, while non-branded ones come from large units in Bhilwara and Mumbai," he said. Despite the current slow demand, traders are hopeful for a boost in sales during the upcoming Diwali season. The market offers a variety of fabrics ranging from ₹150 to ₹1,500.

Agarwal also mentioned that due to the absence of big traders in the past, the market did not achieve the prominence it deserved, despite being in a prime location. However, under the new management's focused efforts, the market is seeing a renewed interest from traders.

Mostly Cash-Based Transactions

Naveen Kedia of Shakti Textile revealed that Sarvoday Textile Market has been operational for over 30 years and primarily deals in shirting-suiting fabrics. "While the majority of traders here are focused on shirting-suiting, there are a couple of saree shops and even a CA office. The market is home to a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, which brings positivity to the traders," he added.

The market operates mostly on cash transactions and provides wholesale pricing for retail buyers. The Sarvoday Textile Market Association ensures that traders benefit from clean facilities and an environmentally friendly setup. There is no maintenance charge, and the market collectively celebrates national and religious festivals with enthusiasm. The fabrics here range from ₹150 to ₹600, catering to a wide array of customers.

With continued focus on cleanliness, management, and attracting more traders, Sarvoday Textile Market is poised to expand its presence in Surat’s vibrant textile industry.
