Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal Embrace Interfaith Marriage with Shared Celebrations
Mumbai: Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha and her husband Zaheer Iqbal recently celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi, marking their first festival together since their interfaith marriage on June 23. The couple shared a video on social media performing the Ganesh aarti, underlining their respect and acceptance of each other's religious practices.
Their marriage earlier this year sparked considerable interest as it bridged religious divides, with Sonakshi being Hindu and Zaheer, Muslim. Despite potential controversies, Sonakshi had previously mentioned that Zaheer had no issues with her religious customs, a sentiment that seems reciprocated given their latest public appearance.
During the festive celebrations at Arpita Khan Sharma's residence, both Sonakshi and Zaheer were seen actively participating in the rituals, with the actress donning a traditional saree and Zaheer in a kurta. They also shared a heartfelt post about mutual respect and the significance of embracing each other's beliefs, which enhances love and respect between them. This was their first Ganesh Chaturthi together as a married couple.
The couple, who had dated for seven years before tying the knot, chose to marry under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, which allows citizens of different faiths to marry without converting. In various interviews post their wedding, Sonakshi has emphasized the importance of shared values over religious labels, advocating for a life built on mutual respect and understanding.
This approach by Sonakshi and Zaheer, especially during such public displays of unity and celebration, offers a narrative of coexistence and mutual respect amidst India's diverse cultural tapestry.
