Surat : SMC Launches New Direct Bus Service to Textile Market, Easing Commute for Traders and Workers
Responding to FOSTA's request, Surat Municipal Corporation initiates a new bus route to facilitate smoother transport for the textile community.
Surat, August 23 - In a significant move to aid the textile traders of Surat, the Surat Municipal Corporation has introduced a direct bus service from Vesu, Althan to the textile market area. This development came following a request by the Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTA), aiming to simplify daily commutes for traders, staff, and laborers while alleviating the city's traffic congestion.
The new bus service, which began operation on Friday, August 23, 2024, is designated as City Route No. 146. It provides a direct connection from Surat Railway Station to Gail Colony in Vesu. The route covers key areas including Sahara Darwaja, Udhna Darwaja, Kharwar Nagar, Socio Circle, Anuvrat Dwar, G.D. Goenka School, and Agrawal Vidya Vihar School, ending at Gail Colony. Five buses will run regularly on this route, ensuring frequent and reliable service.
The inauguration of the new service saw contributions from local councilor Rashmiben Sabu, highlighting the collaborative effort to improve transport facilities for Surat’s bustling textile market. This initiative is expected to significantly benefit the traders, employees, and laborers associated with the textile market, making their daily travel more efficient and less time-consuming.
On the launch day, FOSTA’s Surat Municipal Coordination Committee Chairman Jagdish Kothari and Vice Chairman Naresh Chugulani welcomed the bus at the Millennium Textile Market. The event was also attended by prominent market figures including Ramesh Bhatia, Ashwin Thakkar, Ravi Sahni, and other members of the trading community.
This new bus service is a part of Surat Municipal Corporation's ongoing efforts to enhance urban mobility and support the commercial sectors that drive the city's economy. With reduced travel times and less traffic congestion, the direct bus route is poised to improve the quality of life for thousands of individuals involved in Surat’s textile industry.
