'Stree-2' Shatters Box Office Records with Blockbuster Opening
The Horror-Comedy Sequel Dominates with Impressive First-Day Collections
Mumbai – The much-anticipated sequel 'Stree-2,' featuring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkumar Rao, has hit theaters, and the audience response is overwhelming. Released on Independence Day, the film marks its return six years after the original 'Stree' captivated viewers in 2018. The stars of 'Stree-2' actively promoted the film, and their efforts have paid off with a blockbuster opening at the box office.
According to 'Sacnilk,' 'Stree-2' collected a staggering ₹54.35 crore on its first day in India. The film had a special premiere on Wednesday, earning ₹8.35 crore, followed by an impressive ₹46 crore on the opening day, making it the highest-grossing film on the first day in 2024. This feat surpasses the first-day collections of 'Kalki 2898 AD' (Hindi - ₹24 crore) and 'Fighter' (₹22 crore).
In the race of the biggest openings in 2023, 'Stree-2' trails only behind Shah Rukh Khan's 'Jawaan' (₹65.5 crore) and 'Pathan' (₹55 crore). Despite facing competition from Akshay Kumar and Taapsee Pannu's 'Khel Khel Mein' and John Abraham and Sharvari's 'Veda,' 'Stree-2' held its ground firmly at the box office.
The success of 'Stree-2' can be attributed to its strong advance booking, with 3.9 lakh tickets sold on the first day, resulting in a 75.09 percent occupancy rate. This sequel continues the story where 'Stree' left off, with the villagers gripped by fear due to the presence of 'Sarkata.' The film also features notable cameos, including Varun Dhawan from 'Bhediya.'
The audience's enthusiasm and the film's strong opening indicate a promising box office run for 'Stree-2,' further solidifying its position as a crowd favorite in the horror-comedy genre.
