Surat Textile Market Resolves Parcel Weight Dispute
New 65 Kg Parcel Weight Limit Agreed Upon for Textile Market
Surat - The ongoing dispute over the maximum weight of parcels in the Surat textile market is nearing resolution. A crucial decision was made in a meeting between the Surat Textile Goods Transport Association and the Surat District Textile Marketing Transport Labor Union on Monday, setting a strict parcel weight limit of 65 kg.
Previously established last year, the 65 kg limit had not been consistently followed, leading to significant health risks and operational difficulties for workers. The renewed decision aims to address these issues by enforcing the weight restriction to prevent workers from handling excessively heavy parcels.
Transport Association President Yuvraj Deshale emphasized the challenges transporters face with heavy parcels, noting the financial losses incurred due to loading and unloading difficulties. He stressed the importance of adhering to the weight and size limits to ensure smoother operations.
Labor Union President Umashankar Mishra and spokesperson Shan Khan highlighted the inhumanity and illegality of forcing laborers to lift excessively heavy parcels. They warned that failure to comply with the weight limit would result in worker agitation and strikes.
Both parties have committed to joint efforts to enforce this decision, marking a significant victory for worker safety and improving the parcel transport system in the textile market.
The meeting saw participation from numerous transporters and labor union leaders, including Banarasi Lal Agarwal, Dev Prakash Pandey, Nehal Budhdev, R.K. Singh, Bablu Singh, Neeraj Singh, Deepchand Pandey, Deepak Tiwari, Pravesh Mehta, Lovely Gandhi, Sunil Gandhi, Praveen Jain, Gurmeet, Rahul Arora, Khatri, Suresh Agarwal, Narendra Bhadra, Rahul Pandey, and Ankit Mishra.
