Repeated Flooding Prompts Villagers to Demand Drainage Solutions

Surat : Annual Flooding Angers Sania Hemad Villagers

Due to heavy rains, Sania Hemad village in Surat district has been flooded once again. This village faces annual flooding, leading to growing anger among the villagers. Rainwater from Kadod, Mandvi, and Valak villages flows into Sania Hemad through a creek, causing water levels to rise every six hours and even submerging the Khodiyar Mata temple.

Villagers have demanded that the administration clean the drain and establish effective drainage solutions. They report suffering heavy losses each year due to the floods. The administration has responded by claiming that drainage arrangements are being made and that the drain will be cleaned soon.

Heavy rains in South Gujarat over the past few days have resulted in flooding in low-lying areas, severely affecting residents' lives. Sania Hemad village is currently submerged under seven feet of water.

Water from surrounding villages flows into Sania Hemad via a drain, which leads rainwater into Surat city through the bay. Several other areas in Surat district have also been affected by heavy rains. Fields in the tribal village of Kudsad in Olpad are flooded, and low-lying areas, including Halpati Vas, Navpara Colony, and Kudsad village, have experienced significant waterlogging, causing substantial inconvenience to the residents.
