Murshidabad, 14 July (HS): A child died while bathing in the Padma river in Lalkhandiar area of Raghunathganj in Murshidabad district on Sunday morning, while another child has been admitted to Jangipur sub-divisional hospital in critical condition.
According to local sources, four children went to bath in the river near their house as it was a holiday on Sunday. Imran Sheikh (10), Aziz Sheikh (8), Iqbal Sheikh (10) and Mehdi Hasan (9) got into the river together. Imran and Aziz are cousins. As soon as they entered the water to bath, they started drowning. With the efforts of local people, all of them were rescued and taken out of the river and rushed to Jangipur sub-divisional hospital, where the condition of Aziz and Iqbal was reported to be critical. Aziz died during treatment.
According to hospital sources, Iqbal's condition is critical. He is undergoing treatment. The other two Imran and Mehdi were discharged after first aid.
