A serious road accident occurred on Saturday night on Vesu Canal Road in Surat. A youth, identified as Rakesh Chandanmal Bhatia, was driving his luxury Audi car (GJ-05 RT-5550) at high speed and under the influence of alcohol. Around 10 pm, he collided with 8-10 motorcycles parked near GD Goenka School, causing extensive damage.

The impact left three motorcyclists with severe injuries, and they were promptly taken to the hospital by a 108 ambulance. Eyewitnesses reported that the collision was so forceful that several bikes were completely wrecked.

Police arrived swiftly at the scene to investigate. They discovered that Bhatia, attempting to flee the scene, was thwarted when his car got a flat tire. Local residents apprehended him and handed him over to the authorities. Bhatia was found to be intoxicated, leading to his immediate arrest.

The police have charged Rakesh Chandanmal Bhatia under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 279 (negligent driving), 336 (causing grievous hurt), and 421 (causing damage to property). Officials have assured that a thorough investigation is underway and stringent action will be taken against the accused.

The accident drew a large crowd at the site, with local citizens playing a crucial role in capturing the offender and assisting the injured. The incident has raised serious concerns about road safety and the dangers of drunk driving in the community.
