Surat : SGCCI Hosts Seminar on Unlocking Investment Opportunities in Thailand
Experts highlight Thailand's market potential and investment prospects
On Sunday, the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) organized a seminar titled "Unlocking Thailand: Market Insights and Opportunities." The event brought together notable dignitaries including Her Excellency Miss Patarat Hongtong, Ambassador of the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi, Chalatorn Singhproh, Deputy Director of the Thai Trade Centre in Mumbai, and Ms. Nattasuda Mettaprasart, Deputy Consul General of Thailand.
Investment Opportunities in Thailand
Her Excellency Miss Patarat Hongtong emphasized Thailand's rapid development and its population of 66.05 million. With a literacy rate of 93.8%, Thailand offers a skilled and educated workforce. The country's robust economy, valued at US$ 513.05 billion, benefits from excellent connectivity via air, rail, and road, facilitating transportation and exports for investors.
Strong India-Thailand Trade Relations
The Ambassador highlighted Thailand's diverse import portfolio, which includes crude oil, machinery, electrical integrated circuits, and chemical products. India ranks among Thailand's top 10 import partners, exporting goods worth US$ 5,927 million in 2023.
Opportunities for Indian Investors in Thailand
Chalatorn Singhproh, Deputy Director of the Thai Trade Centre in Mumbai, outlined various sectors ripe for Indian investment. These include pharmaceuticals, automobiles, agriculture, information technology, and construction and furniture. Additionally, there is significant potential in gems and jewelry, organic materials, beauty, and health sectors. The Thai government offers various incentives, including tax relief, to attract investors.

Rohit Mehta, Past President of SGCCI, discussed the chamber's commitment to strengthening trade and investment ties with Thailand. The seminar aimed to inform Indian businesses about Thailand's market opportunities and to foster bilateral trade and investment relations.
The event was moderated by Sanjay Punjabi, Convener of Mission 84. Rakesh Trivedi, Member of the Mission 84 Committee and Managing Director of the Indo-Thai Chamber of MSMEs, introduced the guests and speakers.
