Strict Action Against Repeat Traffic Violators in Surat: Minister
Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi warns of license cancellation for repeat offenders
State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi has issued a stern warning against those repeatedly violating traffic rules in Surat, stating that persistent offenders will face severe consequences, including the cancellation of their driving licenses.
Releasing a decade's worth of traffic violation data, Sanghvi highlighted the alarming numbers: 145,000 individuals have breached traffic regulations 5 to 10 times, 46,000 have done so 10 to 20 times, 18,000 have violated rules 21 to 50 times, 5,000 have 51 to 100 violations, and 1,750 have committed over 100 infractions.
To address this issue, the process of canceling licenses for 6,682 drivers with 51 to 100 violations has commenced, with notices set to be sent within a week. This decisive action aims to curtail reckless driving and improve road safety.
In addition to targeting repeat offenders, the minister emphasized stringent measures against wrong-side driving, with immediate suspension of licenses for those caught driving against traffic flow.
"It is the duty of all citizens to follow traffic rules. Those who violate the rules endanger the lives of others. We will take strict action against such people," stated Sanghvi, underscoring the government's commitment to ensuring safer roads in Surat. This crackdown is expected to significantly reduce the number of accidents and enhance overall traffic discipline in the city.
