The Indian Army has received the first batch of domestically manufactured suicide drones, known as Nagastra-1. The indigenous loitering munition is also known as the suicide drone Nagastra-1. It has been developed by Nagpur-based company Solar Industries. The Indian Army has placed an order with Solar Industries' Economics Explosives Limited (EEL) for the supply of 480 loiter munitions under emergency procurement powers. In this, 120 loiter munitions have been handed over to the army's ammunition depot as the first batch.
This single suicide drone can enter enemy territory and wreak havoc. Equipped with GPS, this drone can attack with accuracy at a distance of two meters. The man-portable fixed-wing electric UAV weighing nine kilograms has a range of 30 minutes. The man-in-loop range is 15 kilometers and the autonomous mode range is 30 kilometers. Its electric propulsion system provides low acoustic signals. Due to this, the enemy is unable to identify it at an altitude of more than 200 meters. It can be launched from the ground with ease. It is capable of carrying 1.5 kg of explosive warhead and can easily hit the target by monitoring up to 15 km. With this, precise attacks can be carried out on terrorist launch pads, infiltrators and enemy training camps.
