Surat : Family of Brain-Dead Individual Inspired by Swadhyay Parivar Donates Organs

Surat, once primarily known for its textiles and diamonds, is now gaining a reputation as a leading organ donor city in India. The recent donation of organs by the family of Bipinbhai Shamjibhai Dasani, a 68-year-old real estate businessman, saved the lives of five individuals.

Dasani experienced dizziness on March 31, prompting his family to take him to Diamond Hospital. After a CT scan revealed a brain stroke, he was transferred to Kiran Hospital for further treatment. On April 3, a team of medical professionals declared Dasani brain dead.

Upon receiving information from the hospital, Donate Life founder-chairman Nilesh Mandlewala and his team met with Dasani's family to discuss the organ donation process and its significance. Inspired by Pandurang Shastriji Athawale and the Swadhyay Parivar, Dasani's wife Renukaben and other family members consented to the organ donation.

The State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) facilitated the allocation of Dasani's liver and kidneys to Kiran Hospital in Surat, while his eyes were donated to Lok Drishti Eye Bank. The organs were transplanted into three patients, while the donated eyes will be provided to two others in need.

To date, Donate Life has enabled 1,106 organ and tissue donations from Surat and South Gujarat, including 460 kidneys, 197 livers, 8 pancreases, 45 hearts, 32 lungs, 4 hands, and 360 eyes.
