Surat : Safety Measures for School Vehicles Reinforced Post Rajkot Fire
Surat City Traffic Branch, Education Department, and RTO enforce strict guidelines to ensure the safety of school children.
Following the fire incident at Rajkot Game Zone, heightened concerns have emerged regarding the safety of children, particularly during their transportation to and from school. To address these concerns, the Surat City Traffic Branch, in collaboration with the Education Department and RTO, organized a significant meeting with principals from over 1800 schools in the city.
During the meeting, school bus, van, and rickshaw owners were instructed to adhere strictly to Supreme Court guidelines to ensure the safety of children. These guidelines mandate that:
- Vehicles must undergo regular fitness tests.
- Speed controllers and CCTV cameras should be installed in vehicles.
- Drivers must receive proper training.
- Children must wear seat belts.
To facilitate compliance, the Education Department, RTO, and Surat City Traffic Branch will prepare and distribute a comprehensive checklist to all schools. Schools are required to implement these measures and submit the completed checklist to the education department with appropriate signatures.
The meeting was attended by Joint Police Commissioner and DCP Traffic of Surat City Traffic Branch, ACPs of all traffic divisions, DEO Bhagirath Singh Parmar, RTO Akash Patel, and other officials from the Traffic Branch and RTO.
This initiative is a crucial step toward enhancing the safety of school children. By following the Supreme Court guidelines, the risk of road accidents can be significantly reduced. It is imperative for schools, the education department, RTO, and traffic police to work collectively to ensure strict adherence to these safety measures.
