Rahul Gandhi to File Appeal in Surat Court; Top Congress Leaders to Accompany Him

Surat: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to file an appeal against his defamation case conviction today, accompanied by several senior Congress leaders and Chief Ministers from Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Himachal Pradesh. As part of the appeal process, Gandhi will also apply for regular bail at the Surat court.

In the lead-up to today's court appearance, Priyanka Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi visited Rahul Gandhi at his residence. Chief Ministers Ashok Gehlot (Rajasthan), Bhupesh Baghel (Chhattisgarh), and Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu (Himachal Pradesh) will join him in court, demonstrating solidarity within the Congress party.

During a press conference at the Surat Circuit House, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed faith in the judiciary and framed the party's actions as a "Satyagraha" to save the nation. Gehlot accused the BJP of being scared and confused by Rahul Gandhi's "Bharat Jodo Yatra" and claimed that the party's negative statements were an attempt to discredit the Congress leader.

Gehlot further defended the democratic right of political leaders and workers to engage with the public and argued that the law should be equal for all. He criticized the BJP's behavior, reminding citizens that the Prime Minister had promised two crore jobs and the return of black money. However, these promises have yet to be fulfilled, and the government is allegedly afraid of being questioned on these matters.

Rahul Gandhi was previously sentenced to two years imprisonment and fined fifteen thousand rupees by the Surat court in the Modi surname case. Following this, he was granted 30-day bail but lost his position as MP the next day. Today, he will appeal the decision in Surat's sessions court, where strict security measures have been implemented to ensure his safety.
