Surat : The Surat police recently apprehended eight women for engaging in indecent behavior at the Ring Road-Majurgate intersection, a bustling area that hosts several educational and medical institutions. The women were observed making lewd gestures at pedestrians, both on foot and in vehicles, causing discomfort and embarrassment to those passing by.

The Majurgate intersection, located on the busy ring road, has been a hotspot for such activities for some time. Residents and commuters have long complained about the nuisance created by these women, who often gather near the BRTS bus stop and adjacent footpaths between 9 am to 12 noon.

During a routine patrol on Thursday morning, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) team spotted the women engaging in inappropriate behavior and immediately intervened. The sight of the police caused a commotion among the women, leading to their apprehension. A complaint was lodged against them at the Umra police station.

The area, besides being home to educational institutions like Civil Hospital, Government Medical College, Gandhi Engineering College, and ITI, also houses numerous medical centers and commercial buildings. The recurring incidents of indecent behavior have left local residents outraged, with many calling for a permanent solution to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The police have been actively addressing such incidents, but the persistence of such behavior has prompted demands from locals for more stringent measures to be put in place. The authorities are expected to increase vigilance in the area to deter such activities and ensure the safety and comfort of residents and commuters alike.
