Surat Municipal Corporation Steps Up Dog Control Efforts Amid Rising Attacks: Mayor Weighs In

Surat: In response to a growing number of dog attacks, the Surat Municipal Corporation has increased its efforts to catch and vaccinate stray dogs. Surat Mayor Hemali Boghavala cited several reasons for the rise in attacks, including hunger, children holding food, breeding season, and a surge in diabetes among dogs.

The administration has removed about ten dogs from the area following an attack on a young girl in Althan village. Mayor Boghavala suggested that increasing rates of diabetes in dogs could be contributing to their aggression. Stray dogs captured by the municipal team are quickly spayed or neutered and vaccinated before being transported to Bhestan for further vaccination.

To address the issue, the corporation has expanded its dog-catching capacity by increasing the number of dog cages and medical teams. A special team of doctors has also been assembled to focus specifically on stray dogs in Surat.

Mayor Boghavala expressed sadness over the attacks on children and acknowledged the various factors contributing to the issue, including the increasing rate of diabetes in dogs. The Surat Municipal Corporation is working to prevent future incidents of dog attacks on children in the city.

Despite these efforts, two children have already lost their lives due to dog attacks in Surat, highlighting the need for continued vigilance. A special team of doctors has been deployed by the municipal government to investigate the reasons behind the increased aggression in dogs and to determine the best course of action moving forward.
