Surat, Gujarat - A drunk driver rammed his car into five people in the Sarthana area of Surat on Wednesday, killing an elderly woman and seriously injuring an 8-year-old child. The accused driver, Jitendra Malviya, has been arrested by the police.

According to the police, Malviya was driving his car in an intoxicated state when he lost control and hit five people. An eight-year-old child is among the injured and has been hospitalized with serious injuries.

An eyewitness, who was injured in the accident, said he was on his bike when Malviya's car hit him from behind. The impact threw him 10 feet away. The car then went on to hit a child and an elderly woman, who died on the spot.

During interrogation, Malviya admitted to being drunk and accidentally pressing the accelerator instead of the brake. The police have registered a case against him for drunk driving and causing an accident.
