Attempted ATM Theft in Surat: State Bank ATM Near Vrindavan Complex Targeted

An attempt to steal cash from a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM near Vrindavan Complex in Surat, Gujarat, was thwarted early yesterday morning. The Panigate Police Station has registered a case and is investigating the incident.

According to a complaint filed by a female manager at the SBI branch near Waghodia Road, she was alerted by the ATM Channel Manager about possible tampering with the ATM near Vrindavan Complex. The manager immediately informed the zonal security officer and proceeded to the ATM. Police were also called to the scene.

Upon inspection, authorities discovered that the ATM's main door, password button, digital locks, and their wires had been damaged with some kind of tool. CCTV footage revealed two individuals arriving on a motorbike, briefly conversing outside the ATM before entering and attempting to break into the machine.

Fortunately, despite the damage, no cash was stolen from the ATM. The loss is estimated at around Rs 75,000, which likely represents the cost of repairing the damaged equipment. The Panigate Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and conducting further investigations to identify the culprits.
