Electrical Engineer Warns of Safe Charging Practices After Overnight Blaze

Surat : E-Bike Warehouse Fire; 19 Bikes Destroyed, 60 Saved by Firefighters

A fire ripped through an electric bike warehouse near Sardar Market early this morning, destroying 19 e-bikes. The incident, which occurred at the EV-5 warehouse located in the Intercity Community Hall near Orchid Tower, highlights the importance of safe charging practices for electric vehicles.

The fire reportedly began with a short circuit in one of the e-bikes that was being charged overnight. The flames quickly spread to nearby bikes, consuming a total of 19 before firefighters arrived at the scene. Firefighters equipped with oxygen masks battled heavy smoke and used water cannons to extinguish the blaze. Thankfully, their swift response prevented the fire from engulfing the entire warehouse and saved approximately 60 e-bikes.

Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or casualties in the incident. However, the fire serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with improper e-bike charging. Electrical Engineer J.D. Chaudhary emphasized the importance of proper ventilation when charging e-bikes, as confined spaces can trap heat and increase the risk of fire. He also warned against using two-prong plugs instead of the recommended three-prong grounded plugs, and urged users to avoid overloading circuits or exceeding recommended charging times.
