Surat Woman Seeks Help from 181 Helpline for Game-Addicted Brother-in-Law
Family Conflict Resolved by Intervention of Government-Operated Women's Helpline
Surat – A woman in Olpad taluka, Surat district, reached out to the 181 Abhayam helpline for assistance with her brother-in-law, who had become addicted to playing mobile games. The helpline, operated by the government, serves as a vital resource for women in distress.
The woman reported that her brother-in-law developed a gaming addiction following his divorce two years ago. As a result, he neither worked nor contributed financially to the household. The woman, who works as a teacher and has a young child, lives with her father-in-law and the game-addicted brother-in-law.
Despite efforts by the woman and her father-in-law to explain the negative effects of excessive gaming on health, the brother-in-law responded with abuse and quarreling. The woman then sought help from the 181 Abhayam helpline.
Following intervention by the 181 team, the brother-in-law agreed to cease playing games, avoid further conflict with his family, and resume working to provide essential items for the household. An amicable agreement was reached between the parties on the spot, demonstrating the effectiveness of the 181 helpline in addressing and resolving family issues.
