Surat Prepares for Lok Sabha Elections as Election Commission Imposes Code of Conduct

Surat : The Election Commission of India has announced the date for the Lok Sabha elections, prompting the administration in Surat city and district to take swift action in enforcing the code of conduct. Measures include the removal of political advertising material from public spaces and government properties.

In a targeted effort across the 16 assembly constituencies of Surat city and district, the administration has undertaken the removal of hoardings, posters, and wall paintings. A total of 810 wall paintings, 1272 posters, 440 banners, and 656 other promotional materials have been removed from both public and private locations in Surat district alone.

The breakdown of removed materials includes 40 from Surat North, 24 from Varachha Road, 21 from Karanj, 375 from Limbayat, 144 from Surat East, 415 from Udhna, 99 from Majura, 54 from Katargam, 45 from Surat West, 708 from Choryasi, 552 from Bardoli, Mahuva, 225 from Allpad, 163 from Kamrej, 58 from Mandvi, and 73 from Mangrol.

Additionally, the police administration in the city has heightened security measures by initiating investigations into suspicious vehicles. Vehicles passing through Surat are being subjected to checks at entry points and various locations within the city. Police officers are conducting video recordings during these checks to ensure legal action can be taken if any suspicious items are found, including cash, political banners, weapons, or liquor.
