In a significant development, the Surat Civil Hospital is set to introduce super specialty heart facilities, including a state-of-the-art cath lab, within its kidney building. The cath lab will be located on the ground floor, while a comprehensive cardiac center will occupy the fourth floor, offering a range of treatments and surgeries for various heart-related ailments. This initiative aims to provide accessible and affordable cardiac care to patients, eliminating the need for them to travel to major cities like Ahmedabad and Mumbai and incur substantial expenses at private hospitals.

The process of launching the cath lab facility is already underway, with a proposal for the permanent appointment of two cardiologists and two technicians currently under consideration in Gandhinagar. The Health Department has partnered with UN Mehta Heart Hospital in Ahmedabad to facilitate this endeavor, marking the first time that patients across South Gujarat will have access to comprehensive heart disease treatments under one roof. Previously, such services were only available at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.

The establishment of heart treatment centers in Gandhinagar, Rajkot, and Surat was part of the state government's budget announcement in February, with a budget allocation of Rs 40 crore for this purpose. The cardiac center at Surat Civil Hospital has been a long-awaited development, with discussions about its construction spanning several years.
