Chamber of Commerce Organizes Session on Industry, Regulation, and Judiciary
The South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) organized a session on the three pillars of sustainability – industry, regulation, and judiciary – during the Industry Exhibition at the Surat International Exhibition and Convention Centre. The session aimed to guide Surat's industrialists on navigating the evolving landscape of environmental and social responsibility.
Former Chairman of the National Green Tribunal, Adarsh Kumar Goyal, emphasized the crucial role of people in achieving sustainability alongside industry, regulators, and the judiciary. He stressed the importance of ensuring a clean environment for all and vowed to take action against polluters. He emphasized the significance of patriotism among industrialists, reminding them that human life and environmental protection are paramount responsibilities of every Indian citizen.
D.M. Thakar, Member Secretary of the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), shed light on the regulatory aspects of sustainability. He detailed the government's initiatives to foster a healthy environment for both industries and communities, including efforts to curb carbon emissions and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for responsible waste management. He further elaborated on Rule 9, aimed at minimizing waste generation and exploring innovative ways to convert waste into valuable products. Thakar highlighted the government's commitment to promoting environmental consciousness and developing advanced technologies for environmental protection.
The session concluded with a Q&A session where industry experts satisfactorily addressed the concerns raised by the attending industrialists. The event was attended by prominent figures such as SGCCI President Ramesh Vaghasia, Vice President Vijay Mewawala, Former President Himanshu Bodawala, GPCB Regional President Dr. Jigyaben Ojha, President of the South Gujarat Textile Processors Association Jitendra Vakharia, and several industrialists.
