Surat Cracks Down on Faulty BRTS Swing Gates, Mumbai Contractor Faces Blacklisting
The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) is taking a tough stance against Technocrat Security System Pvt. Ltd., a Mumbai-based contractor responsible for maintaining swing gates in the city's BRTS corridors. The company's alleged negligence in upholding its maintenance obligations has led to a potential blacklisting and financial penalties.
Installed to prevent unauthorized vehicle entry and ensure passenger safety, the BRTS swing gates have become a source of concern due to their faulty operation. According to the SMC, Technocrat Security, appointed as the sole contractor for their maintenance, has exhibited consistent neglect since the project's inception. Despite repeated notices and even a pre-termination warning issued in 2023, the company failed to address the issue, leaving the swing gates in a state of disrepair.
This inaction has prompted the SMC to take drastic measures. The proposal submitted to the Standing Committee seeks to blacklist Technocrat Security, effectively barring them from future municipal contracts in Surat. Additionally, the corporation plans to confiscate the company's performance bank guarantee to cover the repair costs incurred due to their negligence.
The final decision on these proposals rests with the Standing Committee. However, the SMC's firm stance sends a clear message that it will not tolerate contractors failing to fulfill their contractual obligations, especially when public safety is at stake. Ensuring the proper functioning of the BRTS swing gates is crucial for maintaining a safe and efficient transportation system for Surat residents, and the SMC is determined to hold responsible parties accountable.
