Surat : Historic Success for Gem & Jewellery Industry as Surat SEZ Allows Movement to DTA for Job Work with Immediate effect

Surat : In a significant development for the gem and jewellery industry, Surat Special Economic Zone (SEZ) has officially announced the allowance of movement of goods to the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) for job work purposes. This decision comes as a result of persistent efforts and advocacy led by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and marks a historic win for the industry.

Regional Chairman of GJEPC, Shri Vijay Mangukiya, expressed his elation at this breakthrough, stating, "This is a momentous occasion for the gem and jewellery sector. It is a result of persistence and collaborative efforts to address a long-standing requirement of the industry."

The decision was made following a compelling appeal presented to the Development Commissioner of Surat SEZ, Shri Abhimaniu Sharma, by Shri Vijay Mangukiya, on behalf of the GJEPC. The Development Commissioner, understanding the gravity of the matter and the industry's needs, promptly responded by agreeing to allow such movements with immediate effect.

This breakthrough is set to unleash new opportunities and foster growth within the gem and jewellery sector in Surat. By aligning with established policies and practices observed in other SEZs and fostering an environment conducive to business growth and export expansion, Surat SEZ aims to solidify its position as a premier destination for gem and jewellery manufacturing and export.

The decision to allow movement to DTA for job work is poised to significantly enhance the competitiveness and productivity of the gem and jewellery industry in Surat. It will enable businesses to fulfill orders promptly, capitalize on peak seasons, and contribute positively to both the regional economy and India's export performance.

The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Development Commissioner, Shri Abhimaniu Sharma, for his swift action and understanding of the industry's needs. This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of all stakeholders towards fostering growth, innovation, and sustainability within the gem and jewellery sector.
