Surat : Kakrapar Atomic Power Station Becomes Second Largest in India
PM Modi to Inaugurate New Unit on February 22
The Kakrapar Atomic Power Station located in Tapi district near Surat has achieved another milestone. The plant will achieve a power generation capacity of 1820 MW through the new indigenous unit. With this it will become the second largest headquarters in the country. PM Modi will inaugurate the new unit on 22 February.
The new unit is a 700 MW indigenous design unit. It is the first of its kind in the country. The successful testing of the unit marks a significant achievement for India's nuclear power program.
The Kakrapar Atomic Power Station is one of the largest nuclear power stations in India. It currently has two units with a total capacity of 440 MW. The new unit will more than double the plant's capacity.
The new unit is expected to come online in February 2024. It will provide clean and reliable power to millions of homes and businesses in India.
The expansion of the Kakrapar Atomic Power Station is part of India's ambitious plans to increase its nuclear power capacity. India is currently the third-largest producer of nuclear power in the world, but it plans to become the second-largest by 2032.
Nuclear power is a clean and reliable source of energy. It does not produce greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change. Nuclear power is also a stable source of energy, which is not affected by weather conditions.
The expansion of the Kakrapar Atomic Power Station is a positive development for India's energy security and its fight against climate change.
